This course will
enable you to work as an Indian Head Massage Practitioner within the Health and Beauty Industry.
What is Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is a massage of the upper
back, neck, arms, shoulders, face and of course the head.
History of Indian Head Massage
Women in India have practised traditional head massage for over a thousand years. It was originally developed by women as part of their grooming
routine. They used different oils to keep their hair strong, lustrous and in beautiful condition. However, this was not confined
exclusively to women, barbers would practise many of these same skills, they would ply their trade by going to peoples’
houses, cutting men’s hair and offering a head massage as part of the treatment. Massage has always played an important part in Indian family life
and still does today. When combined with herbs, spices and aromatic oils it helps to promote the body’s
own natural healing abilities. Whilst the use of oil is not a necessary part of the head
treatment in the West, and indeed this has proven to be its popularity, oils can still be offered to clients as an option.
An Indian
Head Massage treatment will usually last for 40 to 50 minutes and you can charge around £20.00 to £25.00 for a
treatment depending upon where you are in the country and whether or not you use essential oils.
